freshcut

FreshCut is a performative installation set within a cinematic realm. Freshly cut flowers, snipped at their peak with their inherent scents, are given as tokens of love and celebration. Yet, in their severance from life-giving roots, they commence a silent, graceful descent towards decay, embodying a macabre reality. FreshCut unfolds as a pas-de-deux between a florist and an electronic music artist. They craft a transdisciplinary tapestry of mortality and vitality. The florist’s cuts feed the live electronics, which immerses the audience into creation and alteration, growth and decay, love, and loss.

Aïda Gabriëls invites artist duo :mentalKLINIK to embed their performative installation FreshCut into a 36-hour audiovisual installation. The audience is invited to witness the creation and decay of the soon-to-be vanished installation.

Sound artist Marie Delprat will create a live track during the first hour of the installation. Together with the florist, she creates a tactile and intimate soundtrack that meditates on the notion of transience.

Première: March 2025
